A pellet stove and radiators made of Portuguese granite are installed but hardly used because the house does not require heating. Also, in the summer, open windows are enough (all with screens) because air conditioning is unnecessary. Automatic & Controlled: The greenhouse is automatically controlled by sensors (the Prilux system), which allows for the automatic opening and closing of the roof of the greenhouse so that temperature and humidity are regulated by thermostat/hygrometer.
Protection: The greenhouse also has external wind sensors, which close the openings automatically in the event of an increase in wind above a certain value, to prevent damage to the structure of the greenhouse and to crops.
Day & Night: Depending on Owner defined standards, temperature and humidity sensors allow for the automatic opening and closing of greenhouse air inlets. Hoses placed on the ground allow for the operation of drip irrigation at pre-set quantities and times throughout the day/night. Several seeding trays and worktables are available in the greenhouse, as well as all the tools needed for day-to-day work.
The Rainwater TanksIndependence: A rainwater storage tank exits with a capacity of 398,000 litres and an automated system for watering crops. The tank also captures water collected from the roof of the house, which is sent to the tank through a water collection system.
No Water Problems: Each field contains a stand-alone cement water tank to be used by farm animals for drinking. One stand-alone tank located alongside the greenhouse contains a float so that excess water collected from the roof of the greenhouse is automatically sent to the main water storage tank.
The Irrigation SystemEverything is connected: There is an extensive irrigation system and water pipes with connections to all the main plots. This system automatically controls the irrigation of crop in all fields.
Optimization: Certain parameters can be optimized individually for each crop field, namely irrigation time, amount of water to be irrigated per day and irrigation schedules. There are 3 tanks to dissolve fertilizers in water, with the help of an oxygenation pump, to carry out irrigation and fertilization, making the entire process efficient.
The cold StorageClimate-Independent: A 6 m
2 refrigerator for storing vegetables is available, which allows for the electronic setting of the chosen temperature and humidity (2 separate regulators) depending on the specific requirements of the vegetables to be stored.
Climate-Zones: In the same container there is also space for storing vegetables out of the refrigerator in cold-room conditions.
The Washing PlacesClean & Protected: The space between the covered containers is a wash/storage area for vegetables with running water.
The Compost AreaOwn Ecosystem: One of the fields is designated as a compost area, producing natural organic fertilizers for the Farm. There is an industrial sized motorized sieve to refine compost material, designed for use with a tractor and a place to store organic fertilizer ready for spreading on the land.
Parking Space: The compost area has a cement house that is used to store agricultural utensils or to offer protection to livestock.
Other Aspects - The Animals: Currently there are several animals in the fields eating and living off the land, namely: cattle, chickens, ducks, horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, dogs, and cats.
- The Fields: All fields have hedges of cedar trees to aid in the protection of crops from excessive wind. The cedar trees are trimmed once per year to ensure maximum protection but checked growth.
- The Cultivation Fields: All cultivation fields are identified with numbered signs, for easier identification and management of the cultivation and work to be carried out by employees.
- Lemon Trees: In an upper field there is an orchard of lemon trees that produce abundant fruit.
